What to Consider When Choosing an Outdoor Wedding Venue

An outdoor wedding can be absolutely beautiful, but there are a few things I recommend considering before signing a venue contract.

What is the rain plan?

Alabama weather can be unpredictable, especially during spring and summer. Ask exactly what happens if it rains and whether the venue has an indoor or covered ceremony option.

What will the lighting look like?

As a photographer, this is something I pay close attention to. Ask what time your ceremony will take place and where the sun will be. A venue that looks beautiful at 10 a.m. can photograph very differently at 5 p.m.

Where will you take portraits?

Look beyond the ceremony location. Are there trees, gardens, water, architecture, open fields, or mountain views nearby? Having multiple portrait locations can make your wedding gallery feel much more varied.

How much time will you have for portraits?

Your venue can be beautiful, but you'll still need enough time in your timeline to actually enjoy it. If you're dreaming of sunset portraits, make sure your timeline allows you to step away from the reception for a few minutes.
